I will be part of an important union of two couples that are very close to me and my boyfriend. This coming December ten days apart, Alex and I will dress up for the upcoming December weddings. *(n.n)* So I was inspired to knit a bride... ... then a groom. Presenting, the bride and the groom at The Farm at San Benito. I just love weddings! It's happy, marry and exciting for the couple and guests! Looking forward to my friends weddings. *^.^*

One of my closest friend got engaged New Year of 2012, of course her four bridesmaids planned a surprise bridal shower for her. I decided to knit her a doll and since it's a bridal shower, I added a little naughty-ness to the knitted doll. My friend's reaction?! Priceless! hehehe Then she got married! Several months later... she gave birth birth to angel... she asked me to make something like this for her baby girl... I barely crochet so I decided to knit a pair of booties... My first knitted booties! Pattern designed by Lucie Sinkler (pattern is for free at ravelry, published in Quick to Knit: Knitting for Babies: Blankets, Booties, Bibs & More, HowStuffWorks, Knitting for Babies: Blankets, Booties, Bibs & More ). And the booties were worn on a special day... her daughter's christening... I am a proud knitter! *(n.n)*
I was inspired to knit Miss Valentine and Bell-boy from Jean Greenhowe's Little Gift Dolls last February in time for the love month. It's been awhile since I last wrote a blog. Due to a series of unfortunate events, (my old MacBook no longer working and photos of past knitted projects late 2012 to early 2013 were corrupted from the camera) I was not able to submit any posts. Now, armed with a new laptop and slowly running out of excuses... It's high time I should be writing again.
From my previous blog, I have shared with you a little history on how I started to make knitting a hobby. I was always fascinated by dolls when I was young, that's probably the reason why I decided to knit dolls over wearables or bags. In addition, I have a lot of nieces and nephews and giving them hand knitted dolls I made seems like a great idea. The decision was made, I started searching the internet for patterns of cute dolls I could make. I searched... searched... and searched some more but only few caught my eye (and were free) to knit. Until I came across Jean Greenhowe's patterns. There's only one problem. Actually, two problems..... 1. The patterns are not free 2. I can't find anyone selling it here in the Philippines. Thanks to a generous soul in the US (my sweet sister), I was able to have some of Jean Greenhowe's booklets shipped to me. Since then I have knitted a lot of dolls from her patterns. I decided that I will feature the dolls I made from her pattern designs. Today, I will feature the first pattern I made from her booklet and will showcase more on future posts. Presenting first: Annabel and Edward from Jean Greenhowe's Dolly Mixtures. I have an adorable niece who likes Barbie in The Pink Shoes. When she turned 4 this year I knitted her a ballerina doll.
My sister established special relationship with some mothers' of her son's classmates. So several days ago I received a birthday invitation.
The party was held at Fun Farm, Sta. Elena, Cabuyao, Laguna. When we arrived there some of the kids were busy fishing. They were all sitting down patiently waiting to catch a fish. After a few minutes two young boys (ages 3 and 5 and they're siblings) were the ones' who caught a fish. After fishing some kids crossed the rope tied to parallel trees, underneath it is a small lake. There were animals to see and interact with; horses, carabaos, birds, ducks, rabbits, pigs and more. Some also enjoyed rowing a small boat. After exploring nature at its best, there was storytelling. The party was a packed with fun and adventure for kids, knowing that children now a days rarely experience and/or appreciate interacting with nature. The mother of the celebrant is into natural and healthy. So for snack the caterer hired cooks healthy food, some were even vegetarian snacks. For the giveaway, the kids were asked to hunt for wooden swords, once one finds a sword, they will smoothen it using sandpaper. Then they were given a cape. The story behind the cape amazed me, pure silk, dyed with fruits (darn i forgot what fruits were used) and hand sewn. Imagine the dedication to make those capes. Of course for every birthday, invited guests prepare gifts. For Sydney I knitted her a pink ballerina. Unfortunately I did not finish it in time for her big day but she will receive it soon... really soon! Today, I attended an event wherein different craft enthusiasts can share what they make. The organizer was Alessa Lanot, she called the event Craft Soiree. Pretty cool huh?! I will share the crafts I received from those who attended the craft soiree soon...
Yahoo! I finished knitting these dolls for a craft soiree. It feels great to finish projects like this... specially when others appreciate it.
I like sharing my knitted toys to kids, but the event I will be attending will be adults, so I hope they are into cute cuddly toys. If not, then they can use these "voodoo" dolls to cast a spell on... hopefully a nice hex. *^.^* Gazing at all these colorful dolls makes me smile so I decided to call them Rainbow Liebling (liebling is German for dear, darling or sweetheart if I am not mistaken). Pattern was taken from Jean Greenhowe's Little Gift Dolls. I made minor revision knitting the feet so it will be apart. My nephew likes playing football. So I decided to knit a football player for him. This will be a great surprise for his upcoming birthday. I decided to make two. One following the color he wanted and the other following the Ateneo Football Center's uniform color.
What's so great about deciding to make two of this pattern was... my nephew wanted to celebrate his birthday with his bestfriend, so I ended up inviting his bestfriend last minute... so tadah... instant give away for Joaquin's birthday - a football player for his friend. So meet the football buddies... I got the pattern from Jean Greenhowe's Mascot Dolls. I always wanted to knit a mermaid. I tried my best to look for the perfect yarn for this project, but failed so I ended up knitting it with the usual acrylic yarn I use. This was not an "easy" knit project. I sew then unstitch the body after realizing that the upper body is way too big for the fish tail. Haha... but despite my minor revision my mermaid turned out to be macho, so I called it the Macho Mermaid... *^.^*
My niece loves this doll, well she's one of those kids who loves to hoard things/toys... but what makes this doll extra special? My 5-year old niece watches ABS-CBN's on going teleserye about the teenager mermaid, called Aryana. The pattern was based on Zoe Halstead's Knitted & Felted Toys: 26 Easy-to-knit Patterns for Adorable Toys. |
